Ward 1 Council Meeting – Learn about different cultures in North Hill
January 10, 2013
Dear North Hill Church and Community Leaders,
I am working with many of the churches, Urban Vision and the International Institute on addressing the cultural changes that are taking place in regards to the large influx of Asian and Hispanic refugees that are moving into our community. I am excited about learning their culture and for them to learn ours and to open some meaningful dialogue and communications. I have noticed a dozen or so markets and store fronts that have opened up recently that cater to the refugees. Urban Vision and the International Institute have made me aware that we have a serious housing shortage in the North Hill area. We need to be creative and work together to find housing solutions to serve their client’s needs.
Urban Vision, under the direction of Rodney Mathews will be taking the lead and partnering with the Mayor’s Office, the Directors of Planning and Neighborhood Assistance and myself to provide a better quality of life for all North Hill residents.
I would like to invite you to attend a meeting on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at the Blessed Trinity Church at 300 East Tallmadge Avenue. The attendees will consist of church leaders, block watch captains and community activists to discuss the influx of the Asian and Hispanic population in our community.
Sincerely,
James P. Hurley
