Congratulations 2011 Scholarship Recipients!
For the first time in NACC history, a scholarship was awarded to twin sisters, Allison and Emily LeBorgne, grand-daughters of our very own Charlie Ault of Summit Moving and Storage. Allison, entering nursing at Kent State University, has a tremendous list of accomplishments. She is a talented musician, who took part in Marching, Symphonic, Concert, Funk and Steel Drum Band, and served as section leader and a tutor for younger instrumentalists in high school. She also plays in her church Worship Band, where she is an active member of her youth group. Between her studies and instrumental practice, you may also find her volunteering with the Salvation Army and the Haven of Rest.
Emily LeBorgne also intends to study nursing at Walsh University. A strong servant, she has devoted over 40 hours of volunteer work outside of school this year. She is also currently planning a large fundraiser to raise $5,000 for “Active Water,” with the goal of building a fresh water well in a remote part of Africa. She has participated in Key Club, Drama and Youth Group, all the while maintaining high grades. Allison and Emily were both awarded $500 scholarships at our scholarship luncheon on June 1, 2011.
Our final award recipient is a North High School graduate. Daughter of Michael and Lisa Kane, Megan Kane held a 4.015 cumulative GPA in both the Honors and AP Academic programs at her school. Her hard work within the classroom is mirrored by her even harder work outside of it. She is involved in Orchestra, Drama, Choir, Keep Akron Beautiful, DECA, Soccer, Cross Country, and the Summit County Metro Parks as a volunteer. Megan was elected Vice President for her Senior Class, President of Student Council, Treasurer of Deca, and manager of the School Store. She carries several awards, including Marketing Student of the Year in 2010. Megan has ambitions to study Marketing at the University of Akron. Megan was awarded a $1,000 scholarship this year.
The North Akron Chamber of Commerce scholarship could not be possible without you, the members. These young people represent our future, and by joining our chamber and participating in our various fund raisers, you have made an investment in the future of North East Ohio, and an investment in the lives of these young people that they will never forget.
